As part of the BMBF-funded project “Fertility Protection Research Centre Ulm – FePro-Ulm”, a new interdisciplinary junior research center for reproductive health with a focus on “fertility protection” is being established at the University of Ulm. Project: Reproductive medicine is young field in medicine. Fertility protection is particularly important for oncological patients prior cytotoxic therapies, for patients with severe endometriosis, for transgender individuals as well as for healthy young women who want to postpone their family planning to a later stage of life (“oocyte freezing”). Our interdisciplinary scientific team will consist of 4 medical (molecular biology, human genetics, ethics and psychosomatics) 3 clinical scientists (gynecology, pediatrics and hemato-oncology) and 2 PhD students (biology/molecular medicine), who will also collaborate and receive further training within the framework of the Clinician and Medical Scientist programs of the medical faculty already existing at the Ulm site. We place particular emphasis on networking opportunities, content and methodological training, mentoring, and personal development opportunities for all scientists. One thematic focus is on molecular biological studies of cryopreserved mature and pre-pubertal ovarian tissue.
